Damana chiarman ill: vote defeated

The 2014 budget of Damana Pradeshiya Sabha was defeated by a five vote majority for a second time this afternoon (30) at a vote presided by the deputy chairman and held amidst police security.


PS chairman Nandana Mahinda Gunawardena had to be hospitalized in Ampara following a fall as he had been on his way to attend the vote.

He had been entering the meeting after speaking to his supporters holding a protest when he fell.

As per provisions in the local government act, deputy chairman Venura Prageeth Hettigamage presided at the meeting.

At the previous vote on December 23, the budget was defeated by a five vote majority.
