A group of thugs attacked and considerably damaged a hotel at Goviyapana in Ahangama, owned by Habaraduwa UNP Organizer Lionel Ipalawatte, around 1.00 am today (23).
The armed thugs of deputy minister Hemal Gunasekara had come in a white coloured van and launched the attack on the premises near the beach on Galle-Matara main road, a complaint by Mr. Ipalawatte to police says.
He says the incident was recorded in the hotel’s CCTV cameras, the footage of which he has handed over to the police.
Mr. Ipalawatte says it was the same group of thugs that had stormed Jayasumanarama Vihara at Goviyapana, of which he is the chief patron, over a clash between Goviyapana and Kapuwatte villages.
Chief incumbent Revatha Thera had asked the thugs to behave in the religious place, but they had threatened him with a sword and warned that he would be killed.
