Minister Vasudeva Nanayakkara has forwarded recommendations to stop harassment of tenants when authority is given to the Ministry of Urban Development by Secretary of Defence and Urban Development Ministry - Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, to take over their lands.
The recommendations claim that officers in military attire should not be deployed to to give oral directions to tenants when their lands are to be taken over.
They add that conducting such actions in a military mission like manner are also against freedom and fundamental human rights.
Minister Nanayakkara says the Urban Development Authority’s response to his letter regarding these recommendations is irrational.
However, the 'Lanka Truth' website reports that the Defense Secretary had been furious when he read Minister Nanayakkara’s recommendations and has sent a letter to Minister Vasudeva Nanayakkara expressing his fury.
