Ananthi to be rehabilitated

The Defence Ministry is seriously considering accommodating Northern Provincial Council (NPC) member Ananthi Sasitharan at a rehabilitation facility to prevent her from propagating separatist sentiments, a newspaper reports.


She was elected to the Norther provincial council last September.

Citing the Defence Ministry, the newspaper has further reported that those who either surrendered or were arrested at the conclusion of the conflict were rehabilitated. However, there are some who missed the government rehabilitation project and Ananthi was among those, it adds.

A senior Defence Ministry official has told the news paper that perhaps Ananthi wouldn’t have adopted such a hostile stance towards the government if she had undergone rehabilitation.

The spokesman has also mentioned that is Ananthi was arrested and rehabilitated, it could trigger strong protests from the international community.

He has further accused her stating that she is undermining post-war reconciliation process.
