Former Sri Lanka Army Commander calls on his party members not to fight for preferential votes

Former Army Commander of Sri Lanka and leader of the Democratic Party (DP), Sarath Fonseka has called on his party members to work to improve the party without fighting amongst each other for preferential votes during elections.

Fonseka speaking at a meeting in Colombo said the DP was aiming at securing 25 seats in both the Western and Southern Provincial Councils.

He reminded that the DP has travelled a very difficult path to become the third force at the provincial council elections in the North Western and Central Provinces in September last year.

Explaining that the DP members should realize the current political and economic crises in the country Fonseka asked them to be mindful of their duties rather than being blinded with achieving personal gains.

According to Fonseka, the commitment of the party to genuinely serve the people would help reach its target of 25 seats in the two provincial councils.
