Woman commits suicide by self immolation

A 24-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide today by setting herself ablaze at a residence on Jinasena Mawatha in Kadawatha.


She had been living in that house for rent as she works at a factory in the area, police said.

The woman had already succumbed to injuries when the house owner had broken down the door and extinguished the fire.

Police inquiries have revealed that the woman, originally from Ankumbura, had committed self immolation over a failed love affair.

The body has been placed at the Ragama Hospital mortuary while the postmortem examination is to be conducted today.
