Diplomatic drive against war crime charges

The Sri Lankan government has launched a diplomatic campaign targeting the UN Human Rights Council session in Geneva in March next year.

The aim of this exercise is to respond to war crimes charges being levelled against Sri Lanka by certain countries, said external affairs ministry secretary Karunatilake Amunugama.

The ministry has made elaborate plans, including a video series, to tell the international community on how the military had behaved during the final stages of the war.

These videos have already been sent to Sri Lankan missions abroad, with focus on Western countries, he added.
