Halfhearted film and sports stars could undermine Sri Lanka's politics - Opposition Leader

Ranil Wickremasinghe, Opposition and United National Party (UNP) Leader of Sri Lanka has said that halfhearted film and sports stars could undermine the country's politics.

At a private function recently the Opposition Leader has commented that actors, actresses and sports stars should not enter politics unless they are ready to devote themselves completely to the cause.

He has noted that the late actor Vijaya Kumaranatunga, the husband of former President Chandrika Kumaranatunga, had made the right move by quitting politics when he decided enter into politics.

The Opposition Leader's statement was made a few days after a popular Sri Lankan actress Nadeesha Hemamali joined the UNP to contest at the Southern Provincial Council election.
