West- South to be dissolved on 12th Jan

The Western and Southern provincial councils are to be dissolved on January 12 and the election is suggested to be held on March 29.


The government had previously decided to dissolve the two provincial councils on December 23 and hold the election on March 08.

However, since the annual Thalawila St. Anne's Church Festival is scheduled to be held on March 08, nearly 400,000 residents from Gampaha will be participating in the festival. Therefore, the government is spreading the news that it has decided to change the date of the election, following the request made by the  Archbishop of Colombo, His Eminence Albert Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, explaining that if the election is to be held on March 08 the Catholic voters will be deprived of the their voting rights.
